Boost Your Roller Skating Skills With These Simple Tips

March 26, 2018 by Writers Leave a Comment

Roller skating is a pastime that is not only good for the soul, but it’s also good for the body! It gives you great exercise, provides fun and entertainment, and enhances childhood development. Do you want in on the action? Check out these roller skating tips that will definitely help you at the rink.

stretchingTake a Moment to Relax

Before you step onto the rink, make sure to relax. If you’re tense, it will be harder to skate. A couple of ways to relax include listening to chill music, taking deep breaths, and stretching for 15 minutes before you skate.

Stretching is incredibly good for your body! When you stretch, you’re loosening up your muscles and preparing them to be used. If your muscles are tight while you skate, an injury may occur.

Fall the Right Way

Nobody ever wants to fall, but it’s likely that it’ll happen at some point in time. (That’s also why it’s important to wear protective roller skating gear such as a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards.) If you can sense that you’re about to take a fall, try not to let your hands be the first part of your body that hits the ground. Bend your knees so they hit the ground first, then whip your legs around in front of you so your momentum comes to a halt.

Avoid Focusing on an Object

Your eyes are like tires on a car. Where your eyes go, your body follows. So if you focus on someone or something directly in front of you, you’ll skate there. Since you want to have a continuous glide and not run into walls or people, allow your eyes to look past obstacles so you veer around them.

Now that you know these roller skating tips, it’s time to practice them! Check out our hours, then head over to Skate World today.

Have Budget-Friendly Valentine’s Day

February 8, 2018 by Writers Leave a Comment

February 14th is right around the corner. Aside from a proposal or a wedding, is there any single day that brings such high expectations for romantic couples–or so much expense? Especially with the budget-busting holidays so close behind us, it can be hard to feel free to celebrate. Skip the crowded, pricey restaurants and check out these ideas for inexpensive Valentine’s dates!

  • Take a skating date! A date at Skate World Pasadena is unique, fun, and cozy, and with our low prices, it won’t break the bank. You and your sweetheart can enjoy some retro romantic fun, or even ask the DJ to play your song for a couple’s skate. If you don’t have a song yet, put your heads together and pick one. Just look out for those blisters!
  • Gift each other poetry. Each of you look for a poem or the lyrics of a song that describes how you feel about your sweetie and then read them to each other over a special home-cooked meal. Don’t forget the candles for extra romance!
  • Bake some goodies together! If you’re not excited about baking, per se, buy some cookies and some icing and skip straight to the part where you decorate them. Give leftovers to friends and coworkers to spread the holiday cheer.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be expensive to be romantic and meaningful. Give your budget a break this year and focus on connecting with your date rather than spending a ton of money. We can’t wait to see you both at Skate world Pasadena!

Conquer Your Goals in 2018!

January 25, 2018 by Writers Leave a Comment

It’s almost February. The excitement of the holidays is over, and the winter weather is in full swing. How are you doing on your New Year’s Resolutions? If you’re like most people, you’ve probably fallen away from the big plans you made for self-improvement this year. It may be time to take stock to give you the best shot at meeting your goals.

  • Reassess Your Goals. Were you a little bit optimistic on December 31st? Take a step back and see if you need to adjust. Remember: it’s better to start with smaller, realistic, more manageable goals. Once you’ve turned them into habits, the momentum will help you add and conquer more goals.
  • Reward Yourself. Indulge yourself a little bit and reward yourself when you succeed. Skate World Pasadena is a great place to do that because a trip to the skating rink is also a way to get great exercise! You’ll have fun, relax, and work towards your goals at the same time.
  • Enlist Some Help. Almost everything is easier when you have good people on your team. Talk to your friends and loved ones about your goals. You never know who else is working towards the same goal–think how much more fun and success you’ll have when you work together.

Remember, every day is a new chance to try again. Don’t beat yourself up if you’ve slipped up a little bit (or even a lot). Take some time to enjoy yourself at Skate World Pasadena, and then try again tomorrow!

Hit Your 2018 Fitness Targets at Skate World

January 12, 2018 by Writers Leave a Comment

It’s not always easy to get started on a new exercise routine, especially for beginners. At Skate World Pasadena we’re among the millions of people who have resolved to get healthier in 2018. If you are too, check out some of our strategies for FITNESS in the new year!

  • Find something fun. It’s hard to keep doing something you hate, and it’s hard to make new habits, so make things a little easier on yourself by picking an exercise routine you’ll enjoy.
  • Ignore your haters, including your inner critic! Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re too old to start exercising, or that missing your goals one day (or one week, or even one month) means you’re a failure. Everybody is allowed to mess up. Just try again tomorrow!
  • Take a friend with you to exercise. The buddy system isn’t just for kids! That doesn’t mean skating isn’t good exercise for kids too, though.
  • Notice how you feel. You’ll start noticing the benefits of regular exercise soon. Focus on those when you start to get tired or busy and think about skipping.
  • Eat more veggies. This is always good advice.
  • Skate! It’s true: roller skating is GREAT exercise. It provides a cardio workout, endurance training, and muscle strengthening, and is easier on your joints than running.
  • Skate more! Did we mention how often we’re open, and how affordable our prices are?

We can’t wait to work on our fitness goals here at Skate World Pasadena, and we hope you’ll come join us to work on yours!

Have Yourself a Budget-Friendly Winter Break

December 20, 2017 by Writers Leave a Comment

If there’s one thing parents are tired of by the end of the holiday season, it’s spending money! The average US parents spend over $300 on gifts every year–per child. By now that’s probably no big surprise to you. Now that winter break is right around the corner, how can parents keep kids busy without further breaking the bank?

That’s where Skate World Pasadena comes in, with our guide to a budget-friendly winter break. Check out our ideas:

    • family relaxing in pjsMovie Night. Who says the movies have to be expensive? Dress up in your holiday best, whether fancy, comfy, or festive, gather on the couch with popcorn, cookies, and hot cocoa, and take in a family-friendly Christmas classic like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Muppet Christmas Carol, or your family’s favorite.
    • Volunteer! Check out some ideas here.
    • Write/Decorate Letters. Writing to grandparents, aunts and uncles, and other far-away friends is a thoughtful, sweet way to pass some time. Kids who can’t write yet can help parents compose a message, then decorate the paper with stickers, glitter, and more. Be sure to include pictures and any small trinkets that kids want to send. Include letters with gift packages, or send them on their own for extra holiday cheer.

And don’t forget our favorite activity: Go Skating! Sometimes you just need to escape the house for a bit. Skate World Pasadena is open extended hours during the holiday break, so next time you and your family are getting stir-crazy, come visit us! Cheapskate Tuesday is only $3 per person, which includes skate rentals.

It’s almost Christmas! December is already almost halfway over. That means if you haven’t already booked your corporate holiday party, it’s definitely time to get to it! Don’t panic if you’re behind this year. Skate World Pasadena is here to help.

A holiday party is an important part of establishing a positive company culture. Help Your Kids Help Others This Holiday

November 22, 2017 by Writers Leave a Comment

‘Tis the season to be giving. What better way to celebrate the holidays than to give back to the community as a family? Here are some ideas for volunteering and charitable giving this holiday season from Skate World Pasadena! giving back

Finding the right volunteer activity for you and your kids doesn’t have to be difficult. First, look at what they’re interested in and seek out organizations that cater to that. Do they love animals? Check out opportunities at a local animal shelter. Are they outgoing and friendly? Senior centers are always looking for help. Do they enjoy logistics, lists, and planning? Find out what sort of material things local homeless shelters need and organize a donation drive, whether large or small. Does your school need some fundraising help? Host a FUNDraiser at Skate World Pasadena!

Second, find something age-appropriate, and don’t think you have to take up your whole day. Speak with nonprofit organizations about kid-friendly opportunities they may have available–they want to work with you. If you can’t find an opportunity that works for you, make one of your own! Kids and parents can pack simple, easy-to-eat bagged lunches for the homeless, pick up litter in a local park, offer assistance to elderly or disabled neighbors, roll pennies to donate to charity, and more.

The important thing is to get involved as a family. Studies show that parents are the best role models when it comes to getting their kids involved in the community. And don’t forget to reward yourselves with fun at Skate World Pasadena anytime we’re open!

How Roller Skating Enhances Childhood Development

November 14, 2017 by Writers Leave a Comment

roller skatingAs a parent, we know you’re always keeping an ear open for ways to help your child succeed. Well, did you know that roller skating can do just that? From enhancing brain power and improving social skills, roller skating is a great activity for a child’s development.

Are you ready to roller skate? Check out our hours!

Check out four reasons why roller skating is great for a child’s development:

Enhances Brain Power

When your kiddos skate, they are getting incredible exercise. This exercise will help sharpen the brain’s cognitive function. This will help them do better in school! They will think they’re just playing and having a good time, but you’ll know they’re getting brain-exercise. (Are you wondering when to introduce your children to the world of roller skating? Check out this article!)

Decreases Stress & Frustration

Exercise is the most effective way to decrease stress for kids. Let’s face it, kids these days have a lot on their plates, and it can be easy for them to get overwhelmed or stressed. Bring them to Skate World Pasadena to skate off their stress and get great exercise.

Improves Social Skills

When your kids are at the skating rink, it’s common for them to meet people to skate with. They are able to bond with people over an activity they love to do – roller skating! This will help them sharpen their social skills and make friends more easily.

Increases Confidence

There are not many sports that your kids can learn within a few hours. However, roller skating is an activity that doesn’t require extreme amounts of time to get the hang of it. When your kids excel at roller skating, they’ll not only have a great time but also a confidence boost!

Are you interested in gifting your kids’ roller skate lessons this Christmas? Check out our available lessons!
