Roller skating is a pastime that is not only good for the soul, but it’s also good for the body! It gives you great exercise, provides fun and entertainment, and enhances childhood development. Do you want in on the action? Check out these roller skating tips that will definitely help you at the rink.
Take a Moment to Relax
Before you step onto the rink, make sure to relax. If you’re tense, it will be harder to skate. A couple of ways to relax include listening to chill music, taking deep breaths, and stretching for 15 minutes before you skate.
Stretching is incredibly good for your body! When you stretch, you’re loosening up your muscles and preparing them to be used. If your muscles are tight while you skate, an injury may occur.
Fall the Right Way
Nobody ever wants to fall, but it’s likely that it’ll happen at some point in time. (That’s also why it’s important to wear protective roller skating gear such as a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards.) If you can sense that you’re about to take a fall, try not to let your hands be the first part of your body that hits the ground. Bend your knees so they hit the ground first, then whip your legs around in front of you so your momentum comes to a halt.
Avoid Focusing on an Object
Your eyes are like tires on a car. Where your eyes go, your body follows. So if you focus on someone or something directly in front of you, you’ll skate there. Since you want to have a continuous glide and not run into walls or people, allow your eyes to look past obstacles so you veer around them.
