How to Prevent (& Treat) Roller Skating Blisters

October 24, 2017 by Writers Leave a Comment

roller skating blistersThe worst feeling after an awesome time at the skating rink is taking off your skates and realizing a blister has formed. Blisters are actually good for your skin because it protects the damaged skin. But, they can be extremely uncomfortable. With proper treatment, you’ll be skating again at Skate World in no time!

View our hours, then come skate with us today!

Check out how to prevent roller skating blisters and how to treat them if one forms.

Prevent Roller Skating Blisters

The most common cause of roller skating blisters is friction. When your feet rub against your socks and roller skates, friction occurs. Too much rubbing will cause the skin to be damaged, and a blister will form. To avoid excess friction, consider these tips:

  • Add a blister pad to the blister-prone area.
  • Push off with your whole foot instead of with your toes.
  • Put on the right-sized skates. Skates that are too small cause excess friction.
  • Wear thick socks to pad your feet.

How to Treat Blisters

Fortunately, with the right treatment, blisters go away rather quickly. Make sure you don’t burst the bubble that has formed. The bubble and the liquid inside are contributing to the healing process. To help your blister heal, consider these tips:

  • Avoid wearing tight shoes or skates for several days.
  • Keep the blister and the surrounding area clean.
  • Wear a loose bandage to protect the blister from bursting.

We hope that you never have to deal with roller skating blisters. But, if you do, take care of the blister and head back to Skate World as soon as possible! We look forward to skating with you soon.

September 7, 2017 by Writers Leave a Comment

flood waters

The aftermath of Hurricane Harvey has left thousands in Texas homeless and without the basic necessities for survival. Thankfully, we have seen the best of the human spirit come out in the storms’ wake. People are coming together to help their friends, family and even total strangers, but the victims of Harvey are not out of the woods yet.

At Skate World Pasadena, we wanted to give you a resource to learn about how to donate from afar, what to give and some tips for those who are on the ground in Texas.

Giving Monetary Donations after Harvey

Monetary donations are the best way to help people affected by this damaging storm, especially from a distance. If you are going to give a monetary donation, be sure to research the organization you are giving to beforehand. Organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston, Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund and United Way Relief Fund ensure your money will go straight to helping those who have lost everything.

Material Donations after Harvey

If you’d prefer to give something other than money, the folks in and around Houston are in great need of the following things:

  • Diapers
  • Baby formula
  • Canned food
  • Medical supplies
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Tools

You can send diapers and other infant supplies to the Texas Diaper Bank located at 5415 Bandera Road, Ste 504, San Antonio, Texas 78238.

Even a Small Donation Can Make a Big Difference

Skating for Better Health!

August 30, 2017 by Writers Leave a Comment

We know roller skating at Skate World Pasadena is a ton of fun. But did you know that it’s also good for you? It’s true–roller skating is great exercise! Take a look at all the health benefits of skating. children roller skating

  • Cardio. When you skate at a moderate or vigorous pace, your heart has to work harder to pump blood. This exercise makes your heart stronger so it doesn’t have to work as hard the rest of the time. Not only that, but more cardio exercise means more oxygen gets to the brain. Roller skating is about the same as jogging in terms of benefits to your heart, lungs, and respiratory system, and is much easier on your joints (not to mention more fun)!
  • Strength. Skating requires balance and strength, which means it works a lot of muscles. Your legs will get a great workout, but so will the muscles in your abdomen and back (also called your core). The core is important for balance and posture, and strengthening it can help prevent back pain. Your arms will even get in on the action–they aid in balance!
  • Mental Health. Not only does skating benefit your body, it’s also good for your brain. Exercise releases endorphins, which can improve mood and even help with symptoms of anxiety and depression. Spending time with family and friends while listening to great music is a great mood-booster too!

Don’t know how to skate? No worries! Learning a new skill is also great for your health. Check out the skating lessons at Skate World Pasadena!
