Beat the Heat with Summer Skating

May 10, 2017 by TaylorB Leave a Comment

Summer vacation means more than just a risk of summer learning loss. As temperatures climb, so does the risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heat stroke. Protect your kids from the summer sun with these CDC recommendations.

How to Keep Kids Safe from the Sun

  • boys playing outsideStay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day
  • Have the kids play in the shade if possible
  • Sunscreen everyone up at least 30 minutes before going outside, and reapply sunscreen regularly
  • Keep kids hydrated, especially if they’re playing outside
  • Make sure their drinks contain electrolytes, and limit sugar intake
  • Look for signs of dehydration or heat exhaustion

Signs of Dehydration

Kids are at a higher risk of heat exhaustion than adults because their bodies have more difficulty cooling down. Dehydration can worsen quickly, causing serious heat illness. Look for these signs of dehydration in your kids:

  • Dry lips, a dry mouth, or increased thirst
  • Unusual tiredness after playing in the sun
  • Dizziness, weakness, or fainting
  • Headache
  • Irritability
  • Increased sweating or clammy skin
  • Dark colored urine
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Muscle cramps

Beat the Heat at Skate World

Don’t sweat summer fun! At Skate World Pasadena, your kids can enjoy hours of entertainment and active play without worrying about the heat. Our facilities are air conditioned for safe, comfortable summer fun. Sign up for our summer skating lessons, plan a group event for your child and friends, or visit during our normal hours for unbeatable family fun. Beat the Pasadena heat with summer skating!

We Put the FUN in “FUNdraiser”

April 21, 2017 by TaylorB Leave a Comment

Are you looking for a good place to host a school booster night? Does your church need to raise a certain amount of money to keep its youth program up and running? When setting up a fundraiser to support your church, school, or local community group, there are three key factors you need to keep in mind that we’re sure you’ve heard of before:

Location, location, location.

At Skate World Pasadena, we’re considered by many to be experts in fun. That’s why every fundraiser held at our roller skating rink is automatically upgraded to a FUNdraiser.

The Best Place to Raise Build Support

skating fundraiserFUNdraisers at Skate World Pasadena take place when the skating center is CLOSED to the public, and each session lasts about 2 hours, meaning that anyone who wants to support your cause is welcome to stop in and connect with other people who support the same cause or organization. In addition to raising money for your school or church, here are a few more of the many reasons you should make your fundraiser a FUNdraiser:

  • School children get a chance to roller skate with their friends, strengthening bonds of friendships that started in the classroom.
  • Roller skating at Skate World Pasadena is only $6, and it includes basic skate rentals!
  • Roller skating isn’t just a fun time with friends and family. Skating is also recommended by the American Heart Association as an aerobic sport that exercises all the body’s muscles, including the heart.

We love to see community organizations rallying together to do right by their cause, and we take great in pride helping that happen with our roller-skating FUNdraisers. Call Skate World Pasadena today and talk to us about exactly what you want from your FUNdraiser.

5 Reasons Kids Will Love Summer Skate Lessons

April 12, 2017 by TaylorB Leave a Comment

We all love the feeling of rolling down a rink at a leisurely speed with our friends and family. It’s one of the coolest ways to spend time together, but what if your youngest child isn’t comfortable taking the wheel(s)? No worries! Skate World Pasadena can help.

5 Reasons Kids Should Take Skate Lessons this Summer

  1. girl in helmet and wristguardsJoin in on the fun. Nobody wants to be the one person in their family who can’t join in on the fun, and roller-skating isn’t nearly as much fun if everyone can’t participate. Skate World Pasadena offers skate lessons for beginners, private beginners lessons, and group skating lessons.
  2. Learn the ropes. When your child takes skate lessons at Skate World Pasadena, we make sure to cover the basics (standing, skating forward and backwards, stopping, games, and more). Your child can join friends and family zipping around the rink in no time.
  3. No assembly required. If your child doesn’t already have skates at home, there’s no need to fret. Skate World Pasadena provides rental skates that any child can use during lessons.
  4. Perfect timing. Even in the summer, life can get hectic during the week. That’s why our skate lessons take place on Friday nights from 6pm – 7pm. No need to stress about driving the kids someplace after work! And don’t forget to swing by our Saturday sessions to practice.
  5. Become a certified skater. At the end of the course, your child will receive a special certificate verifying that he or she completed the class successfully. Nothing says “pro” like a certificate!

4 Tips for an End of the Year Party

March 24, 2017 by TaylorB Leave a Comment

It’s been a great year. You’ve had your ups and downs, but the kids have learned and grown in ways both expected and unexpected. Now summer is almost here and you’re ready to celebrate. How can you show the kids how proud you are of their achievements? Throw an end of the year party at Skate World Pasadena!

4 Tips for an End of the Year Party

  1. happy boys outsideCelebrate your wins. Whether you’re recognizing players for scoring goals or rewarding students for their achievements, a Top 10 list is a great way to praise children for a great year. Ask everyone to submit their favorite memories. Make a Best Of list based on which games, field trips, and lessons get the most votes.
  2. Pay compliments forward. Ask each child to draw a name out of a hat. After a few minutes to think, ask them to share one memory of that person being kind, helping others, or being responsible.
  3. Plan a trip. There’s nothing kids love more than getting out of the classroom, packing up the field, and leaving the normal routine behind. Whether you’re celebrating with a sports team party or trying something new with your Scouts troop, a change of scenery is just what you need.
  4. Get moving! Physical activity is a great way for kids to decompress, engage with their friends, and get rid of extra energy. Roller-skating is a fun cardiovascular exercise for kids. Bonus: it’s also proven to improve moods and boost childhood development.

Don’t wait until the last minute to celebrate successes. Plan a summer kickoff party for the ages at Skate World in Pasadena.

4 Tips for Planning the Perfect Staycation

March 13, 2017 by TaylorB Leave a Comment

Who says you have to travel to have fun? Staycations are just as much fun if you know what to do. Take a break, rest up, and have a blast with your family without ever leaving Pasadena. Skate World has 4 tips to make your staycation incredible!

4 Tips for Planning the Perfect Staycation

  1. family relaxing in bedPlan ahead. A staycation means you don’t have to pack, clean the house, or prep snacks for the kids, right? Wrong! If you don’t plan ahead, you’ll spend the whole week catching up on errands and cooking for the kids. What separates a spring break staycation from any other week? You take a break from normal life to enjoy the world and people around you. That means crossing laundry off your To Do list before spring break begins.
  2. Try something new. Is there a restaurant you’ve always wanted to try, a park your kids have been dying to visit, or a talent you’d love to master? Treat yourself to a nice dinner, enjoy the sunshine, and lace your skates to learn a new trick.
  3. Buy souvenirs. Make staying home feel like an adventure. Treat yourself to something fun and unique to remind you of the week. This can be anything from a cheesy souvenir from the museum to an item you’ve had your eye on for ages. Make it special by setting a souvenir budget, just like you would if you were traveling.
  4. Go on an adventure. Skate World Pasadena has big family fun, rain or shine. Take advantage of our spring break specials like free Lazer Tag Wednesday or our Friday night St. Patrick’s Day party.
  5. Take plenty of pics. After all, Facebook photos are forever!

Book a Skate World School Field Trip

February 21, 2017 by TaylorB Leave a Comment

students raising handsSchool field trips are something that students look forward to at any age. The chance to take some time away from school is a great way to let children recharge, reconnect, and even learn new lessons. Most students feel like a field trip is an awesome reward where they don’t have to be in school or bother learning anything–it’s a day of total freedom. But that doesn’t have to be the case. If you could plan a field trip where your students stay active, have fun, and learn at the same time, how could you pass that up? You can, if you’re in Pasadena and you plan your field trip at Skate World!

Whether you’re teaching your students the science of motion, the importance of physical fitness, or the phycological effects of staying active, it’s easy to incorporate a lesson into skate time. Skating is an excellent form of exercise, working a variety of muscles, including your heart! And incorporating regular physical activity into kids’ lives at a young age teaches them to be healthier adults. Don’t plan a field trip that your students only look forward because they get to leave school property. Plan a field trip that benefits their brains, helps them get fit, and teaches them valuable lessons they’ll use for the rest of their lives. That it’s fun is really just the icing on the cake!

If you’re looking for a field trip that teach your students valuable lessons while they play, book a school trip to Skate World Pasadena!

4 Ways to Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions

December 27, 2016 by TaylorB Leave a Comment

Are you one of those people who love New Year’s resolutions . . . for about a week? Studies show that almost half of all Americans make annual New Year’s resolutions. Can you guess how many keep them? 8%. Which proves that your 2017 goals are achievable with a little determination and a lot of fun!

How to Keep New Year’s Resolutions

  • checklistBe specific. Goals like “lose weight” or “save money” are grand aspirations. Unless you bring them back to earth, they’ll quickly float away. Set specific goals like “I will exercise 3 times a week” or “I will spend no more than X dollars this month.” You’ll be surprised at how much more motivated you are to succeed!
  • Think about the negatives. What are the roadblocks you’ll face before achieving your 2017 goals? Write down the hard stuff and strategize to overcome them. For example, you’ll be more likely to hit your fitness goals if you do something you like, such as roller-skating or hiking instead of going to the gym.
  • Make it a team thing. That snooze button looks mighty fine when nobody is watching. But if your kids are waiting outside the door or your best friend left work to skate with you on her lunch break, your chances of sticking to your goals go up. Even better—you’re helping them out too.
  • Don’t give up. Getting in shape, learning new skills, and saving money may seem hard at first, but once you get past the first few weeks, you’ll find it’s achievable after all. Set reminders on your phone and stick to it!

Ready for fun fitness? Accomplish your New Year’s goals at Skate World Pasadena.

Giving Thanks This Thanksgiving

November 21, 2016 by Zach Sanders Leave a Comment

We are growing ever-nearer to Thanksgiving, and already we detect the scent of feasts being prepared. Thank You Neon Sign This season isn’t just about the dishes placed before us at the table though, it’s a time to reflect on our lives and what we are truly thankful for. This characteristic of the holiday is, in our opinion, just as important for businesses to ponder as it is for individuals. That being said, we want to take some time before the hustle and bustles of Thanksgiving day to write down what it is that we are all thankful for here at Skate World Pasadena!

  • First and foremost, without our patrons coming to skate week in and week out, we would not exist. We thank each and every one of you, from those who have visited us once to our regulars.
  • The energy you all bring! A rink is really just a wood floor without its skaters. The energy you bring to this place breathes life into what would otherwise just be another building.
  • Roller skating, of course! It’s hard to consider now, but there was once a point in time when roller skating did not exist! We are so thankful to live in a time when it does and to exist during a point in its history when roller skating is so advanced. There aren’t many things in this world we can say we love more than roller skating and most everything else is a distant second.

We hope your holiday is filled with laughter and love this year! We welcome you to come visit us after Thanksgiving is over this year to skate off the inevitable extra calorie or two. Happy Thanksgiving!
