Roller Skating Games That Your Kids Will LOVE

May 23, 2018 by Writers Leave a Comment

roller skatingHave you decided to host your child’s summer birthday party at Skate World Deer Park? Good choice! Roller skating is a fun activity will keep them busy and entertained for hours. Plus, their guests will love it, too! Want to have an even better celebration? Our team put together a couple exciting roller skating games that are a spin-off of traditional games.

Tag 2.0

If you liked tag as a child, you’ll love tag 2.0. The game starts like a regular tag game with one player being “it” and the rest trying to skate away from the tagger. But, once you’re tagged, the game gets interesting. If you are tagged by the person that’s “it”, you link arms or hold hands with that person and both of you are “it”! The more people you tag, the longer your chain of taggers grows! Eventually, there will be one person left versus a long line of taggers. Let the fun begin!

Skating Charades

Charades is a ton of fun at birthday parties, get-togethers, or any time you are with one or more people! To play this game, each of the participants will write down certain animals, people, places, or things on cards. Then, the actor must pick up a card and act out what is written down, and the other participants must guess until they get it right. Spice up this fun game by playing it on skates! Bring your friends, a pen, and cards to the rink, and “charade skate” at Skate World Deer Park. Try to act out famous skating scenes from movies like Charlie Chaplin in “Modern Times.” Just remember: safety first!

These are only two of many roller skating games you can play with your friends. Whether you have a birthday to celebrate or simply just want to hang out at the rink, check out our hours and visit us today!

Beat Boredom with Summer Skating Parties!

May 7, 2018 by Writers Leave a Comment

Who’s ready for summer break? Kids definitely are. Parents, on the other hand, may not be! If you can already hear the dreaded vacation refrain of “I’m bored!” you’re not alone. This summer, give boredom the boot by hosting a party at Skate World Deer Park!

How does a skating party this summer benefit kids and parents alike?

  • It peels kids away from screens and gets them to exercise, which helps prevent inactivity, boredom, and summer brain drain.
  • It helps kids reconnect and keep up with friends from school, which will kill boredom and make the eventual return to classes that much less scary.
  • It takes pressure off caregivers, especially stay-at-home parents, to come up with activities during the long, hot days of summer. Our space is indoors and totally air-conditioned.
  • If kids have summer birthdays, a skating party ensures they don’t get lost in the shuffle of trips, vacations, and camps. Nobody wants to feel left out or overlooked on their birthday.
  • It means kids have something to look forward to, which becomes an incentive/reward for good behavior!

Don’t let kids waste their summer on the couch. A party package at Skate World Deer Park means hours of active, engaging fun for kids, friends, and even parents. You’ll never need to worry about setting up, breaking down, cleaning up, or providing tons of food. You can even book online, taking even more stress off hosts! But hurry–even though it hasn’t started yet, summer vacation will be over before we know it!

Ways to Improve Your Balance While Roller Skating

April 23, 2018 by Writers Leave a Comment

stretchWhen you roller skate for the first time, you have to consider a few things: what clothes to wear, what skates to choose, and different ways to stay up on your skates. Some people have more difficulty than others because of balance issues. If you struggle with balance, don’t let that stop you! There are ways you can improve your stability so that roller skating is a breeze. Check out these tips:

Determine Which Leg is Weaker

Did you know that most people have a leg that’s stronger than the other? Just like you use a certain hand to write with, you probably have a go-to leg when you lean, kick a ball, or do other one-legged activities.

So, to know which leg needs your focus, do the one-leg test. This test is simple. Stand on one foot, and have the other foot hovering a couple inches off the ground. Time yourself to see how long you can stand. Do this test with each leg. Whichever leg gets the shorter time, practice strengthening those leg muscles! Over time, you will see a huge difference if you keep doing exercises that will improve your balance.

Practice As Often As Possible

“Practice makes perfect” is a quote most people know. But, have you heard “practice makes permanent”? When you roller skate, you want to make sure you have the correct form and technique so that you are learning it correctly. That’s why we offer skating lessons to help! After a few lessons, you’ll be ready to skate.

And remember, before stepping onto the rink, make sure you stretch your leg muscles. Most people skate and balance better when their muscles are loose and warm. This will also help prevent injuries! The more you practice, the better you’ll able to skate. So, we encourage you to come to Skate World Deer Park and get your skate on!

Simple Ways to Keep Your Roller Skates in Good Shape

April 10, 2018 by Writers Leave a Comment

roller skatesIf you’re looking for ways to have fun, you want to check out roller skating! To ensure you get the maximum amount of use out of your roller skates, it’s imperative that you clean your skates often. You may be wondering how to clean your roller skates. Thankfully, it’s actually pretty simple! Check out these tips:

Spin Your Wheels

While your skates are off, spin your wheels to see if there is any dirt caked on them. You may not feel it while roller skating, but dirt can cause your wheels to work harder than they should. Use a damp cloth to clean them. If they’re worn down considerably, we recommend replacing them.

Wipe Down Your Boot

The boot portion of your skate is where you put your feet. Just like your wheels, it’s important to keep the boots clean to increase their lifespan. Once you wipe them down, dry them immediately. You don’t want the boot to be wet. And, since it’s common for people to sweat in their roller skates, let your skates air out on the inside to ensure mildew doesn’t grow. (After you skate, treat your feet to some pampering to keep them fresh!)

Check Your Toe Stoppers

The toe stoppers are your skates’ brakes. Because you likely use them every time you skate, eventually the stoppers loosen. If you check your stoppers and they are loose, tighten them so your brakes work how they are supposed to. Every few months, rotate your toe stoppers so they endure wear and tear evenly.

Now that you know how to keep your roller skates in good shape, head to Skate World Deer Park for a fun afternoon of roller skating! Check out our hours and bring your friends and family to the rink.

February 21, 2018 by Writers Leave a Comment

When it comes to escaping the classroom for some hands-on learning and much-needed fun, there’s nothing like a field trip!

At Skate World Deer Park we offer two different kinds of field trips. If you’re just looking for a fun day out of the classroom, perhaps as a reward for test scores or reading goals, check out one of our standard field trips. On the other hand, if you want to really take advantage of all that a field trip can offer your students, check out a Rolling with Science STEM Program field trip!

Fields trips don’t just offer opportunities for fun. Studies show that they help to develop useful traits like empathy and social skills, and help kids retain what they’ve learned in the classroom. Plus, roller skating lends itself to science in a BIG way! What better way to learn about the Newton’s Three Laws of Motion than to see them in action–or even to win a race by mastering them? Time in the roller rink also ties into lessons about forces, astronomy, balance and so much more. Whether you choose to build your own lessons or utilize our professional curriculum, your students will have a blast and not even realize they’re learning.

It’s never too early to start planning field trips, especially for the months when kids are feeling stir-crazy. After all, the holidays are over, but summer break is still a long ways off. November 22, 2017 by Writers Leave a Comment

At Skate World in Deer Park, Texas, we want to give you some fun ways to help those in need during the holidays this year. Our community is the most important thing to us, and we want to do what we can to make sure everyone has enough this holiday season.

Volunteering over the holidays is a great way to give back to the community and teach your children a valuable lesson about the importance of being a good neighbor at the same time! We’ll be offering specials and teaming up with local charities to do our part, and here’s how you can help.

Donations Are Always Welcome!

Donating non-perishable items to your local food banks is a great way to get your kids involved. Have them help you go through your cabinets and decide what to donate. This will get them involved and help show your little ones how important it is to donate when you have more than others. Here’s a helpful list of nonperishable that are perfect for donating:

  • Canned fruits, pears, peaches, etc.
  • Whole grain products, brown rice, and oatmeal
  • Canned vegetables, green beans, corn, etc.
  • Canned chicken, beef or similar low-sodium proteins
  • Granola, protein bars, and nuts

Participate in Our FUN-draiser Parties!

Our skating center has a bunch of options when it comes to fundraisers. You can set one up with your own group to benefit an organization of your choice, or you can come in this December for our Skating with Santa FUN-draiser! Fundraisers during the holidays are a perfect way to give back while having the time of your life.

Want More Suggestions? Roll Over to Skate World!

Football season will be ending soon. Have you started thinking about your team party? Don’t panic; let the experts at Skate World Center Deer Park help you plan yours!

youth football

A party at the end of the season is a great chance for coaches and parents to reward players for all their hard work and dedication through the weeks and months of practice and games. It gives kids a chance to socialize with their teammates, sharing great memories and cementing the new friendships they’ve made. It also lets parents and coaches talk about successes and relax a bit outside the pressures of the season. You’ll have time for speeches, thank yous, awards, and even coach gifts!

Now you know why you should plan an end-of-season party, but where should you do it? That’s where Skate World Deer Park comes in! Our party packages are affordable–options start at just $7.50 per skater, with non-skating parents admitted free. You can choose a la carte food options and only order what your group will eat, or go all out and book an unlimited pizza buffet skating party. Active, athletic kids get hungry, and skating burns a lot of calories–why not let them indulge in all-you-can-eat pizza? No matter what package options you choose, we’ll handle all the setup, cleanup, and even provide a party host to make sure everything goes smoothly.

When you’re ready to start planning your team’s end-of-season party, give Skate World Deer Park a call. We’ll work together to make it the best team party ever!
